Our Story

Born from a deep respect for Australia's wild places

How We Started

Amethyst-thicket began with a simple observation: too many visitors were experiencing Australia's wilderness through bus windows and designated lookouts. They were seeing landscapes, but not truly encountering them.

In 2018, a group of experienced bushwalkers and conservation guides decided to create something different. Not adventure tourism in the traditional sense, but genuine wilderness immersion with safety and expertise as foundations.

We spent eighteen months mapping routes, building relationships with traditional landowners, and developing protocols that prioritize both visitor safety and environmental preservation.

What Guides Our Work

Environmental Stewardship

Every route we operate leaves no trace beyond footprints. We work with conservation groups to monitor our impact and adjust our practices accordingly.

Cultural Respect

Many of our trails cross lands with deep indigenous significance. We collaborate with traditional owners and share their stories with permission and reverence.

Safety Without Compromise

Our guides maintain wilderness first responder certification and carry satellite communication equipment. We never let adventure override good judgment.

Authentic Experience

We resist the urge to manufacture moments. Real wilderness is unpredictable, sometimes challenging, and always honest. That's precisely what makes it transformative.

Our Guides

Each person leading our expeditions brings at least five years of wilderness experience. More importantly, they possess the kind of calm competence that only comes from countless nights under open sky and hundreds of kilometers walked.

They're trained in ecology, first aid, navigation, and conflict de-escalation. But beyond certifications, they share a genuine passion for showing others what they've discovered in these landscapes.

You won't find scripted speeches or forced enthusiasm. Just people who genuinely love this work and understand how to share it.

How We Operate

We limit group sizes to eight participants. This keeps our environmental footprint manageable and ensures everyone receives proper attention from guides.

Routes are planned seasonally. We don't run alpine treks during storm season or coastal walks when fire danger is extreme. If conditions deteriorate, we modify or postpone rather than push through.

All equipment is maintained to professional standards and replaced before it becomes unreliable. We provide everything except personal clothing and optional camera gear.

Meals are prepared fresh at each camp using ingredients sourced from local suppliers when possible. Dietary requirements are accommodated with advance notice.
